$100k fine for Equatorial Guinea crowd behaviour
AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea have been fined $100,000 but escaped having a third-placed match played behind closed doors after crowd trouble in a semi-final against Ghana.
Several Ghana fans were injured after rival supporters attacked them with the Black Stars leading 3-0 and with less than 10 minutes to the end of Thursday’s Africa Cup semi-final.
Besides the fine, the CAF disciplinary committee on Friday announced it will allow for a third-placed match between Equatorial Guinea and DRC on Saturday to be played with fans so as “to promote a spirit of fair play and brotherhood in the AFCON 2015”.
However, if there is another crowd trouble at Estadio de Malabo, Equatorial Guinea will play their next home game behind closed doors.
The host nation will also pay for the treatment of the injured Ghana fans.
