Bafana go down to Algeria
A wasteful Bafana Bafana side were beaten 3-1 by Africa’s number one ranked team in the continent Algeria in their opening Africa Nations Cup Group C game on Monday.
South Africa were first to score through Thuso Phala in the 51st minute. Then Tokelo Rantie hit the crossbar with his penalty kick and Algeria clawed their way back into the contest.
First they netted through an own goal by Thulani Hlatshwayo in the 67th minute before Faouzi Ghoulam netted in the 72nd and Islam Slimani in the 83rd to seal the win as a result of a blunder by Bafana keeper Keet.
Bafana now have to win against Senegal this Friday who earlier beat Ghana by 2-1. It’s a mountain to climb for the young Bafana team, the character of the players is going to be put to test in the remaining two games.
