Baxter: ‘Downs look like they won’t be caught’
SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter says Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns ‘look like they won’t be caught’ in the race for the title this season.
The Brazilians may have lost 1-0 away to Zimbabwe’s Chicken Inn in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie this past weekend, but on the domestic front they enjoy a nine-point lead at the top of the PSL and look on course for another league title.
Baxter, who led Chiefs to two PSL championships in his three seasons in charge at the Soweto club, believes the Brazilians will take some catching.
“They [Sundowns] are doing what we [Chiefs] did. They are running away, looking like they won’t be caught,” he is quoted on TimesLive.
“But you know that it creates pressure as well. If Sundowns were to lose [just] as some of their competitors string together a few good results, then it’s wide open again. But at this moment you can’t see that happening.”
Baxter added: “At the moment I think it will be a case of who is the best of the rest because I think Sundowns are looking confident and well-organised.”
