Downs Drubb Supersport In Tshwane Derby
Mamelodi Sundowns powered through in the Tshwane Derby with an impressive 3-1 drubbing of Supersport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Khama Billiat, Themba Zwane and Teko Modise got the goals for The Brazilians against a high flying Amatsatsantsa side who just came back from winning the 2014 Telkom Knockout.
It was the Tshwane neighbours who scored first through Sundowns on loan player Dove Wome early in the first half. A response was imminent from Coach Pitso’s men as they started ti press the visitors hard.
Hlompho Kekana did well to find Cuthbert Malajila in the opposition box. The Zimbabwean hitman found Billiat who never hesitated to equalise for Sundowns with a cool finish.
With the halftime break looming, The Brazilians kicked into second gear and went ahead through Themba Zwane who was putting in a man of the match performance on the day.
There was drama as expected in a derby match, tempers fled and former Downs player Thuso Phala received his second yellow card 13 minutes into the second half.
The clash lived up to its billing of “The Derby with Goals” as Modise sealed it with superb strike that left United keeper Ronwen Williams superglued to the turf in the 74th minute.
