Modise: ‘We just need to soldier on’

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise reflected on what was a hard-fought 2-1 win for the league champions over Maritzburg Unitedon Tuesday evening.

Anthony Laffor’s brace looked to have secured a comfortable win for the Brazilians, but Kurt Lentjies fired home with five minutes remaining to set-up a nervy end to the encounter.

‘Downs held on to jump into second place in the Absa Premiership standings and subsequently stretch their unbeaten run in the league to 12 games.

“We have been playing back-to-back, this has been our fourth game in the past two weeks or so, so it’s been tough. It’s not only tough for us, but for everyone, we just need to soldier on,” said Modise.

“We came here knowing that it would be a tough game. Thank God we scored two goals so at least we had a little bit of cushion, they nearly came back, we had to grind.

“We haven’t lost a game in a while. We just need to keep on playing, we have a fantastic technical team that keeps on motivating the players. We hope that we will continue to grow as a team.”

Sundowns next face Ajax Cape Town at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, their final league game before the New Year
