Onyango: Preparations paid off
TKO final man-of-the-match Denis Onyango has revealed how attention to detail enable him to save the day for the Brazilians with two regulation time penalty stops in the 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in Durban.
The Ugandan custodian went the right way not once but twice as he kept out Siphiwe Tshabalala and Camaldine Abraw’s second half spot kicks to ensure here was no way back for AmaKhosi, allowing Sundowns to earn a first Cup final win over Chiefs in seven attempts in the PSL era.
Onyango says there was no luck involved in his two penalty saves, but puts it down to the pre-match preparation the Sundowns players were put through.
“I would like to thank my teammates because they were supporting me in every moment. Because with all the penalties I was waiting for them to tell me which way to go. We studied their players and knew where they would go.
“We’ve been working hard on penalties. We knew all of their movements. My teammates reminded me for each penalty where they would go,” said Onyango.
