Papic: Survival is first priority
Polokwane City coach Kosta Papic says his first priority is to avoid relegation from the Absa Premiership, this despite his side being just seven points off second place.
Papic collected his Absa Premiership Coach of the Month award for November/December in Johannesburg on Monday.
He insists that remaining in the top flight is a greater priority than trying to move up the log, with Rise and Shine set to resume league duties when they face Ajax Cape Town away on Wednesday.
“Wow, it would be nice to take a club from relegation to second place but, like I’ve said, my first objective is to save the team from relegation,” said Papic.
“In my opinion, we need nine points to completely be safe this season. Which position we finish in thereafter is just a bonus.”
The former Orlando Pirates coach insists he is being realistic with his ambitions for the season.
“If we finish second – fantastic, but we are not going to put ourselves under pressure.
“I’m telling the truth, I’m not buying face or just trying to be diplomatic or anything,” he added.
