SuperSport confirm triple signings from Chiefs

SuperSport United have completed the triple signing of Reyaad Pieterse, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Keegan Ritchie.

All three players join having last been on the books of Kaizer Chiefs.

Goalkeeper Pieterse has signed a three-year contract with Matsatsantsa and is earmarked to bring in strong competition into the goalkeeping department that already has Ronwen Williams and Boalefa Pule in its roster.

The 24-year-old joined Amakhosi in 2013 where he won the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup in 2013 under the tutelage of current SuperSport coach, Stuart Baxter.

“Reyaad is a talented goalkeeper with a very promising future,” SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said. “Our coach wants strong competition for every position in the team.

“And with Ronwen, Reyaad and Boalefa between the poles, we think we have the strongest goalkeeping department in the league. When you add in young Mondli Mpoto, who is a national under-20 goalkeeper, then the future looks bright for us in this area.”

Bafana Bafana veteran Letsholonyane, meanwhile, also moves on a free transfer and has penned a two-year deal with his new employers.

The 33-year- old midfielder made 183 appearances over the past eight seasons for Amakhosi and has won an impressive 50 caps for South Africa.

“I am thrilled to be a part of SuperSport United,” he said. “I know the coach from my time at Chiefs and I am looking forward to working with him again here.

“SuperSport has shown that they are a very professional club that look after their players and are always competitive in the cups and a team who are very tough to beat. I am also looking forward to playing in Africa in the Confederations Cup.”

Letsholonyane previously spent time at Jomo Cosmos where he made his name with 70 appearances, scoring seven goals along the way.

He joined Ezenkosi from PJ Stars in 2006 where he made 49 starts after working his way up through the lower divisions with spells at the likes of Dangerous Darkies United and Hellenic FC.

Both players arrive on free transfers after deciding not to renew their contracts at Naturena.

On the other hand, SuperSport’s deal for Ritchie is a swap deal that involves Sibusiso Khumalo heading in the opposite direction next season.

Ritchie, 25, is a product of the SuperSport United academy and has extensive experience in the Absa Premiership having played for Moroka Swallows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Chiefs.

The Alberton-born player has twice lifted the league title and has also won the MTN8 title and the Nedbank Cup in his time at Amakhosi.

Matsatsantsa coach Stuart Baxter, who worked with Richie at Chiefs, said: “It’s part of our philosophy to bring in talented young players who like to learn and develop themselves, and that’s true of Ritchie.

“He is a talented football player with a cultured left foot and will add value to our attacking set pieces as well as our defensive structure.”
