Why Orlando Pirates will Win Q2 (2014/15)

Orlando Pirates is in some ways a “late bloomer”. They rarely start the season on fire. In the last 9 season Orlando Pirates won Q1 once in 2009/10 season. This is unlike Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs that more often than not start the season blazing. You could argue that starting the season on fire is the reason why Mamelodi Sundowns and not Orlando Pirates is the most successful club when it comes to the premiership. That is however a discussion for another day.

Like a true late bloomer – whose talents or capabilities are not visible to others until later than usual, Orlando Pirates has surprised many in more than 1 occasion e.g. 2010/11 and 2011/12 by taking the cup right under the noses of Kaizer Chiefs and/or Mamelodi Sundowns. It is time some among us start to realise that “it ain’t over till the fat lady sings”!

So Pirates has started 2014/15 season in an ordinary way. Some would argue even that Pirates’ Q1 performance was rather a disappointment. To which we would argue that – there is nothing out of the ordinary about Pirates and Q1.

In Q2 though Pirates is posed to kick some ass. Serious ass.
In the 7 games that constitute Q2, Pirates has one “very hard” game, their encounter against Kaizer Chiefs. This is an important match for both teams, but more so for Orlando Pirates having lost to Chiefs in MTN8 Wafa Wafa. The 1st of November encounter is a chance for revenge, so we are giving this match to Pirates.

The other game we consider to be “hard” for Bucks in Q2 is their match against Ajax Cape Town. We think this game will end in a draw. The remaining 5 games are “easy” games that we think Pirates has a very high chance of winning. All in all we think Pirates will collect 19 points in Q2, the highest of any team.

This is not some wishy washy wishful thinking, Olando Pirates has led Q2 (games 9 – 15) twice in the last 5 seasons (2010/11 and 2012/13), coming at number 2 in 2011/12 season. They have the track record and this year, they have the team too.

The R1.5 million in Q2 is going to Orlando and that might just be the start or would that be in addition to Telkom Knockout?

Teams Orlando Pirates is playing in Q2 (in no particular order):
Black Aces v Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates v Kaizer Chiefs
Platinum Stars v Orlando Pirates
University of Pretoria v Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates v Maritzburg Utd
Orlando Pirates v Ajax Cape Town
Orlando Pirates v Bloem Celtic
