Chiefs, Sundowns Partner with Telkom to Inspire Youth

As the clock winds down to the highly anticipated 2015 Telkom Knockout final, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns players took time off from their training schedules to join hands with Telkom to help inspire youth in building their confidence and preparing for the working environment. The Connected Youth event was held at the Matimba Drop In Centre in Mamelodi, Pretoria, on Thursday, 26 November.

The Telkom Connected Youth programme’s primary focus is to transform disadvantaged communities through sustainable social investment. Youth attending the event embraced the opportunity to interact with their football icons as players shared their stories of hard work and dedication.


“Giving back to our communities is something very close to my heart because I remember what it took for me to get to where I am. Our presence here today is just a reminder to the youth that through hard work and determination, anything is possible,” said Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleke .


Mamelodi Sundowns , Hlompho Kekana heaped praise on Telkom’s innovative means of contributing to youth skills development.


“What Telkom is doing for the youth today is truly remarkable. Through such initiatives, young people can be empowered to go into the workplace and make a career for themselves, “ said Kekana.


The 2015 Telkom Knockout finals will be played on Wednesday, 16 December, which falls on the Day of Reconciliation and is expected to be a memorable football affair of a Soweto vs Tshwane derby.
